ORyu

Kakkarin Female, Historic figure

ORyu is one of the most famous legendary heroes of the Asylum's past - up there with the Godslayer and Maxim. Raised and educated by the sacred arcanist Mikado - ORyu developed the martial art that later became Sieyorin Karate (in later years this style would become the 'standard' martial art used in most countries). An adventurer and powerful esper - ORyu is told to have been something of a wild card and possibly a bit insane (though kind-hearted nonetheless), after her death at the hands of Kurai-no-Tetsu survivors her soul was split into five separate pieces that are eternally reincarnated as separate heroes.

ORyu carries the Nyue-bo: a staff given to her by Mikado that has questionable dimensional properties. The staff can change its length to anything conceivable by ORyu and will stay fixed in any location she sets it, even mid-air.

In The Making...

After a while I started to come up with an actual idea for what I wanted ORyu to be like: I decided at some point to base the character on the Chinese legend of 'Monkey'. From the erratic disposition and the staff of infinite size, it just seems to fit with the idea I had originally of Mikado rescuing her from the rage of those who assumed she was evil due to her unusual qualities. I hadn't planned on writing stories from the point of the legendary events prior to the actual Shadowlark Symphony; but most of the historical figures are having such clear images to me that I am likely to do it now.
